Main Deity of the Brihadeeswarar Temple or Thanjai Periya Kovil is Lord Shiva and is located in the Thanjavur district of Tamil Nadu. It is one of the largest temples in India. This brilliant creation of the Chola dynasty in the 11th century AD stands tall as a testimony to the opulence and grandeur of the Chola rulers.

It is also called Dakshina Meru (Meru of the South). It is Built by Chola emperor Rajaraja I between 1003 and 1010 CE

Today, the temple enjoys the status of a UNESCO World Heritage Site under the list of Great Living Chola Temples and is visited by hundreds of thousands of devotees and tourists every year.

The temple tower is 216 ft long which is considered as the tallest temple tower in the world. The Kumbam on top of the Vimana, weighing 80 tonnes carved from a single granite.
ലോകത്തിലെ ഏറ്റവും ഉയരം കൂടിയ ക്ഷേത്ര ഗോപുരമായി കണക്കാക്കപ്പെടുന്ന ക്ഷേത്ര ഗോപുരത്തിന് 216 അടി നീളമുണ്ട്. ഒരു കരിങ്കല്ലിൽ കൊത്തിയെടുത്ത 80 ടൺ ഭാരമുള്ളതാണ് വിമാനത്തിന്റെ മുകളിലെ കുംഭം.
