The origin of Kadampuzha Temple is associated with the Mahabharatha, the ancient Indian myth, considered to be the greatest story ever told. However the temple as such was founded by Shree Shankaracharya and the month he consecrated Kadampuzha Temple, the day of Karthika in the month of Virshchikam (November – December) is the considered the most auspicious day and is celebrated as the festival day.
കാടമ്പുഴ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്റെ ഉത്ഭവം പുരാതന ഇന്ത്യൻ പുരാണമായ മഹാഭാരതവുമായി ബന്ധപ്പെട്ടിരിക്കുന്നു, ഇത് ഇതുവരെ പറയപ്പെട്ടിട്ടുള്ളതിൽ വച്ച് ഏറ്റവും വലിയ കഥയായി കണക്കാക്കപ്പെടുന്നു. എന്നിരുന്നാലും, ക്ഷേത്രം സ്ഥാപിച്ചത് ശ്രീ ശങ്കരാചാര്യരാണ്, അദ്ദേഹം കാടമ്പുഴ ക്ഷേത്രം പ്രതിഷ്ഠിച്ച മാസമാണ്, വൃശ്ചികമാസത്തിലെ (നവംബർ-ഡിസംബർ) കാർത്തിക ദിവസമാണ് ഏറ്റവും ശുഭകരമായ ദിവസമായി കണക്കാക്കുന്നത്, അത് ഉത്സവ ദിവസമായി ആഘോഷിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു.
Shree Shankaracharya, during his Deshadanam, a pilgrimage to various parts of the country, came across this place while he was going to Chottanikkara Temple after his Darshan at Kollur Mookambika Devi Temple. When he reached the place now known as Kadampuzha, he found that he could not walk cross and that his way was blocked by a Divine Presence.
ശ്രീ ശങ്കരാചാര്യർ ദേശാടന വേളയിൽ രാജ്യത്തിന്റെ വിവിധ ഭാഗങ്ങളിലേക്കുള്ള തീർത്ഥാടന വേളയിൽ കൊല്ലൂർ മൂകാംബിക ദേവീക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ ദർശനം കഴിഞ്ഞ് ചോറ്റാനിക്കര ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലേക്ക് പോകുമ്പോഴാണ് ഈ സ്ഥലം കണ്ടത്. ഇപ്പോൾ കാടാമ്പുഴ എന്നറിയപ്പെടുന്ന സ്ഥലത്ത് എത്തിയപ്പോൾ, തനിക്ക് കുറുകെ നടക്കാൻ കഴിയില്ലെന്നും ഒരു ദൈവിക സാന്നിദ്ധ്യത്താൽ തന്റെ വഴി തടസ്സപ്പെട്ടതായും അദ്ദേഹം കണ്ടെത്തി.
Even with the superior Sight that could “See” or “Understand” Divine presences, he could not fathom it. Perplexed, he meditated to understand why he failed to fathom the Divine Presence and within himself discovered that having attained the “Sarvaknanapeedhom”, his ego had somehow crept in to make him feel superior and that his ego was being shunned by the Divine Presence, making him unable to fathom it.
ദൈവിക സാന്നിധ്യങ്ങളെ "കാണാനും" "മനസ്സിലാക്കാനും" കഴിയുന്ന ശ്രേഷ്ഠമായ കാഴ്‌ച ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നിട്ടും അവർക്കു അത് ഉൾക്കൊള്ളാൻ കഴിഞ്ഞില്ല. ആശയക്കുഴപ്പത്തിലായ അദ്ദേഹം, ദൈവിക സാന്നിദ്ധ്യം ഉൾക്കൊള്ളുന്നതിൽ പരാജയപ്പെട്ടത് എന്തുകൊണ്ടാണെന്ന് മനസിലാക്കാൻ ധ്യാനിച്ചു, "സർവക്നാനപീഠം" നേടിയപ്പോൾ, തന്റെ അഹംഭാവം എങ്ങനെയോ അവനെ ശ്രേഷ്ഠനാക്കിത്തീർക്കാൻ ശ്രമിച്ചുവെന്നും ദൈവിക സാന്നിദ്ധ്യത്താൽ തന്റെ അഹംഭാവം ഒഴിവാക്കപ്പെടുന്നുവെന്നും ഉള്ളിൽ കണ്ടെത്തി. അവർക്കു ഉൾക്കൊള്ളാൻ കഴിഞ്ഞില്ല.
The Divine Saint immediately set about cleaning his mind of any ego and made himself as humble and pure minded as an innocent child. He approached the Divine Presence again with utmost devotion and supplication and immediately perceived what the presence was and wherein it was emanating from. He marvelled at the Divine Presence of the Devi very strongly bonded with the Divine Presence of Lord Shiva and decided that the place should be treated with absolute reverence.
ദിവ്യ വിശുദ്ധൻ ഉടൻ തന്നെ തന്റെ മനസ്സിനെ ഏതെങ്കിലും അഹംഭാവത്തിൽ നിന്ന് ശുദ്ധീകരിക്കാൻ തുടങ്ങി, ഒരു നിരപരാധിയായ കുട്ടിയെപ്പോലെ സ്വയം എളിമയും ശുദ്ധമായ മനസ്സും ആക്കി. അത്യധികം ഭക്തിയോടും അപേക്ഷയോടും കൂടി അദ്ദേഹം വീണ്ടും ദൈവിക സാന്നിധ്യത്തെ സമീപിച്ചു, സാന്നിദ്ധ്യം എന്താണെന്നും അത് എവിടെ നിന്നാണ് ഉത്ഭവിക്കുന്നതെന്നും പെട്ടെന്ന് മനസ്സിലാക്കി. പരമശിവന്റെ ദിവ്യസാന്നിദ്ധ്യവുമായി വളരെ ശക്തമായി ബന്ധപ്പെട്ടിരിക്കുന്ന ദേവിയുടെ ദിവ്യസാന്നിദ്ധ്യത്തിൽ അദ്ദേഹം ആശ്ചര്യപ്പെടുകയും ഈ സ്ഥലത്തെ തികഞ്ഞ ആദരവോടെ പരിഗണിക്കണമെന്ന് തീരുമാനിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു.
Devi is worshiped here in three forms. In the mornings she is worshiped as Vidya Durga (Saraswati) bestowing knowledge and excellence in career to all. In the afternoon she is worshiped as Vanadurga (Durga) in the Twaritha Devi form blessing the devotees with health, early marriage, and domestic harmony and in the evening as Aadi Durga (Mooladurga - Lakshmi) bestowing the devotees with wealth and overall prosperity.
ദേവിയെ മൂന്ന് രൂപത്തിലാണ് ഇവിടെ ആരാധിക്കുന്നത്. എല്ലാവർക്കും അറിവും തൊഴിലിൽ മികവും പ്രദാനം ചെയ്യുന്ന വിദ്യാ ദുർഗ്ഗ (സരസ്വതി) ആയി രാവിലെ ദേവിയെ ആരാധിക്കുന്നു. ഉച്ചതിരിഞ്ഞ് ഭക്തർക്ക് ആരോഗ്യം, നേരത്തെയുള്ള വിവാഹം, ഗാർഹിക ഐക്യം എന്നിവ അനുഗ്രഹിക്കുന്ന ത്വരിതാദേവിയുടെ രൂപത്തിൽ വനദുർഗ (ദുർഗ) ആയി ആരാധിക്കുന്നു, വൈകുന്നേരം ആദി ദുർഗ്ഗ (മൂലദുർഗ - ലക്ഷ്മി) ആയി ഭക്തർക്ക് സമ്പത്തും മൊത്തത്തിലുള്ള ഐശ്വര്യവും പ്രദാനം ചെയ്യുന്നു.
